Vendimia tapestry - a Francesco Goya painting showing a husband and wife with their young son in a rather intimate scene. The painters style is reminiscent of the late seventeenth century, neo-classical era. However, the idyllic, somewhat romantic elements of the composition reflect the earlier Rococco style. In the background, we can see men harvesting grapes. A servant has brought a large basket of grapes to the owners of the estate. The composition does not focus on displaying the wealth of this couple. In fact, while they may be well dressed, their clothes are not bourgeois. This is what defines neo-classical art, of the late seventeenth century; it?s elegant simplicity. Unlike the Rococco style, which often traded elegance for reality, this scene had not been idealized. It is a family moment, which has been captured by the artist, in a very personal way. The couples attention is directed towards their child, and each other. Only the maid with the grapes has noticed there are others looking on.
