Napoleon - Compiegne Forest
This fine French tapestry shows Napoleon hunting in the Compiegne Forest. It is based on artwork by artist and lithographer, Carle Vernet (1758-1836) and belongs to a series of works showing Napoleon, his second wife, Marie-Louise, and courtiers hunting in the Compiegne forest, just outside Paris. Vernet won the Prix de Rome in 1782 and the Legion of Honor in 1808 with one of his many battle scenes. It is finely woven in 50% wool and 50% cotton, is lined and has a rod pocket. We enclose instructions about hanging tapestries with your order.
A smaller tapestry of the inner hunt scene is also available.
