Woodpecker, no verse
This version of the popular William Morris Woodpecker Tapestry is without the verse, showing the woodpecker chasing another bird in a fruit tree. It is also available with the original verse.
The Woodpecker tapestry was one of the very few tapestries designed entirely by William Morris. The tapestry was inspired by the legend of Picus, an ancient Italian king turned into a woodpecker by the sorceress Circe because of her jealousy of the king's love for his wife, as recounted by Ovid in Metamorphoses.
