The Knights Holy Grail tapestry

The Knights Holy Grail tapestry is one of a series called The Quest of the Holy Grail designed in the 1890's by Morris & Co. The series was commissioned by the Australian millionaire W. K. D'Arcy and was inspired by Malory's famous poem Morte d'Arthur. Designed by Edward Burne-Jones (1833 - 1898), William Morris (1834 - 1896) and John Henry Dearle (1860 - 1932) between 1892 and 1895 it features 5 pieces, each recounting a different part of the story of King Arthur's search for the Holy Grail. The tapestry above, correctly titled The Arming and Departure of the Knights was the second in the series, and we see the ladies of the court help the knights prepare. This fine French tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of wall-hanging.
