Verdure Chantilly

Verdure Chantilly tapestry

Verdure Chantilly tapestry is finely woven in France by Jules Pansu, showing a woodland scene of a cottage, a church and a meandering stream with a bridge viewed through the forest trees. In the foreground wild flowers are in bloom. The border of this piece has ripened fruits including grapes, apples, plums, and pears gracefully entwined around the piece.

The word "verdure" comes from the old French word verd, meaning green, itself a corruption of the original Latin word viridis. One notable feature of all verdures is their attention to detail and their striking use of natural colors to create a strong visual impact. Unlike other well known tapestry motifs, such as Mille Fleurs, verdures are works of art in their own right, with the central and ornamental elements making up the focus of the work rather than just a decorative backdrop. This French tapestry is an beautiful example of the warmth of verdure tapestry designs, and contains much detail. The foreground and background features combine to create an illusion of depth that compliments the luxury of the woven fabric found in all our wall tapestries. It is a work of art that would look equally good in a traditional home as well as a more contemporary setting.

This verdure tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging - we provide tapestry hanging instructions with your order. Please note that it is non-returnable.
