Danae tapestry
The Danae tapestry was originally a painting by Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) from 1907. Danae shows the central motif of the painting with additional design. Zeus seduces Danae who gives birth to their son Perseus who later accidentally kills the king of Argos, her father. In this Italian tapestry she is shown giving herself to Zeus. The original is exhibited at the Galerie Wurthle in Vienna.
The Danae tapestry is woven in cotton with the addition of golden lurex for fine detailing and it is lined and has a rod pocket for easy wall-hanging. (We supply instructions for hanging all our Art Nouveau tapestries with every order.) The lower photo shows this Klimt tapestry hanging in a home in Leicestershire that oozes character.
