The Aurora tapestry, woven in Belgium, shows a girl in a garden picking roses and wild flowers. It is a highly stylized piece with echoes of the Arts and Crafts Movement. On the decorative border is the name of the famous Nationale des Arts Decoratifs (the School of Decorative Arts) that commissioned this piece. In 1925 the school was renamed Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs, and it continues today under that name. The origins of the school lie with the Ecole Royale Gratuite de Dessin, the Royal Free School of Art. Jean-Jacques Bachelier, a talented French painter founded the original school in 1766 which was officially patented by Louis XV a year later. Drawing figures and ornamentation formed the basis of what was a precise and demanding apprenticeship. Within this composition, the precise workmanship and intricate detail of the design reflects the dedication to quality and creativity the school for which became so famous.
This Belgian tapestry is fully lined and has a tunnel for ease of wall-hanging. Please note that the larger size is non-returnable.
The Aurora tapestry was reviewed on Google by Nicolas in Philadelphia who also purchased the Flora tapestry: "My wife and I had been looking for a suitable tapestry for our guest room for a long time and we feel so fortunate that we found The Tapestry House. We ordered the Aurora tapestry and the quality and beauty of the piece is outstanding. It has truly lovely colors and the finishing on the back with the pocket is beautifully done and very well thought out, making the piece very straightforward to hang. We bought a simple Kenney "Arts and Crafts" curtain rod from Kohl, discarded the brackets, and hung the tapestry close to the wall with two nails that remain hidden from view. Perfect! In the process of ordering we had some questions and Martin and Linda were very helpful and kind. We would highly recommend purchasing from this company!"
