Large William Morris portiere tapestry -Maroon

The William Morris portiere tapestry wall-hanging is adapted from a timeless design by this great Arts and Crafts designer. This finely woven French tapestry is available in three sizes, with each size in two colour tones; the other being in green and yellow. You can view them all on our William Morris tapestries page. The sizes result in a different niumber of elements in each tapestry, most noticeable in the swirling acanthus leaves.

All these tapestries are woven in France today by a long established weaver in their top quality weave, with the wool giving full depth and the cotton providing fine detailing. These portiere hangings are fully lined and have a rod pocket - we provide tapestry hanging instructions with every order.

Incidentally, a portiere is a hanging traditionally placed at the side of major doors, often in pairs. Today we hang them wherever we please.
