Angels Tapestry
This tapestry depicts three Angels, which is symbolic of the second coming of Christ. In Revelations 14:6 - 14:12, and in a majority of Christian theologies, it is three Angels, who deliver the message, that Jesus will return to earth from Heaven. This composition is very simple aesthetically, yet rigorously structured, and the figures have been elongated. All these elements of which, are very typical and true to the Gothic style. The gold, along with the deep blue, pinks and muted browns, are also typical of the Gothic and Byzantine period. The three angels have a golden bowl of walnuts in front of them, which are a symbol of fertility. A clear reference to the rebirth of Christ. In the background is a single Oak tree, which depicts the tree of Shecham. This is where Jacob buried the false gods, as described in Genesis 35:4. Shescham was the first capital in the Kingdom of Israel. It was here that the Lord first appeared to Abraham and gave him, and his descendants, that land. Without doubt, this is a composition which bares a highly descriptive narrative. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
