Angels Tapestry

Angels religious tapestry wall hanging

This angel tapestry is was inspired by the fresco ceilings of the Palazzo Farnese. Palazzo Farnese is a prominent High Renaissance palace in Rome. The most imposing Italian palace of the sixteenth century", according to Sir Banister Fletcher, this palace was designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger (1484-1546), one of Bramante's assistants in the design of St. Peter's. The huge ceiling in the reception room of Palazzo Farnese was part of a great cycle of decorative paintings on the theme The Loves of the Gods, which Carracci painted for Cardinal Odoardo Farnese. They are his undoubted masterpieces and were tremendously influential, for two centuries ranking with Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel and Raphael's frescos in the Vatican as the supreme examples of Western painting. Generations of young painters were set to copy it. This Belgian tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
