An excerpt from the Bayeux
tapestry , the 230ft long epic dating from the 11th century. It depicts the events known collectively as the Norman Conquest, which culminated in the Battle of Hastings of 1066. This scene depicts the Normans, having made preparations for war and urged on by Duke William, attack the Anglo-Saxons. William's men are on horseback, attacking Harold's men on foot. As with all of the Bayeux tapestry it contains a staggering amount of detail and provides a valuable insight into the mechanics of war, as well as a fascinating account of the events leading up to the battle itself. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
