This tapestry depicts artwork from the mastaba of the ancient Egyptian father and son, Ptah-Hotep and Akhet-Hotep. A mastaba is a flat roofed, usually rectangular building that has outward sloping sides which mark the burial sites of eminent Egyptians of Egypt’s ancient period. Ptah-Hotep and Akhet-Hotep were buried in a double mastaba as was the custom at that time. The art work of this piece represents the giving of sacrifice to the deceased Pharaohs. This mastaba includes the mural above as well as decorations showing boys playing games and wrestling. Incredibly, this mastaba is now open to public viewing – a must for any traveller visiting Egypt. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
