This tapestry depicts a hunting scene typical of 15th century England. In the foreground are tiny trees, bushes and flowers and a small dog. In this delightful setting the hunting party led by the falconer crowd across the tapestry. Hunting in the middle ages was more than mere pastime, the elaborate rituals of the hunt were an integral part of court etiquette, and skill in hunting was regarded as the peacetime equivalent of prowess in chivalric wars. Many treatises were written by men of rank - a count, a duke, an emperor - on the arts of hunting and hawking. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
