Unicorn (detail)
This piece shows a detail from the La Dame a la Licorne series of tapestries from the 15th century. The unicorn was an important, and often central, element in many medieval works of art. Often used to represent many virtues important in the medieval era, its purity was often used as an allegory for Christ and the virtues he represented. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
