The Indiscretion

This tapestry is based on a painting by the French painter Jean- Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806). Fragonard’s Rococo style was distinguished by a remarkable ability, exuberance and hedonism. Among his most popular works are genre paintings conveying an atmosphere of intimacy and veiled eroticism. Indeed, the art work this tapestry is based on caused quite a stir in its day because the nobleman who commissioned this piece is seen trying to peep up his mistresses petticoat whilst she is pushed on her swing by the bishop. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
