Royal Niveau

This elegant wall tapestry features a royal residence set amidst expansive gardens. The scene is witnessed from an ornate balcony overlooking sophisticated gardens, with a horse and carriage in the middle distance. In the foreground are a beautifully rendered velvet cloak and a mandolin as well as an elaborately detailed urn perched on the balustrade.

The piece was inspired by the famous Tentures de Maisons Royales (Tapestries of the Royal Households) commissioned by Louis XIV in 1670. These were a series of twelve tapestries to celebrate the life of the Sun king himself. Designed by Charles Le Brun (1619 - 1690) they were part of the many lavish elements of French art in the 17th century and not only helped set the tone for art in their day but have become a byword for splendor and richness ever since.

The detail in the work, especially the strong summer light, are elegantly captured by the weave in this high quality wall tapestry. This intensifies the colors even more creating a textured artwork that would work well in any number of different settings.

This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
