This tapestry is from an original fresco by Renaissance artist Andrea del Sarto (1486 - 1530). One of four figures representing virtues (Faith, Hope, Charity, and Justice) it embodies much of del Sarto's mastery of the High Renaissance style, and also reflects Florentine's art patrons' willingness to embrace non-religious subject matter for art, very unusual for its day. A contemporary of Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo, del Sarto produced most of his work in Florence, at that point the epicenter for the Renaissance. His mastery of color and draughtmanship as well as his use of light has ensured his lasting reputation as one of the era's outstanding figures. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
