This portiere tapestry depicts an elaborate woodland setting in summer. The foreground is dominated by three trees in the full bloom of the season, complimented by surrounding foliage. The darker background helps create depth and helps the detail of the foreground, especially the leaves and branches, reach out. The piece is framed with a traditional border that adds elegance and charm, finishing an already impressive wall tapestry.

The portiere style originated as a type of textile to hang over a doorway. It originated from Eastern countries and, although it's not known when it was introduced into Europe, it is believed to be at least 1500 years ago. The label "portiere" is a truncation of rideau de porte, French for "door curtain".

Over time the style has developed into a more elaborate form and is now used in a variety of ways. This includes wall tapestries , where the portiere style is taken to mean any long narrow wall textile.
