The Swing

The Swing tapestry wall-hanging is from a series of paintings by romantic artist Jean-Baptiste Huet (1745 - 1811). Depicting a small group set against a fantasy background, we see a young woman on a swing hanging from two exotic palm trees. Typical of the artists work it is intricate and detailed and shows particular skill in the use of vivid colors and light. Heavily influenced by Francois Boucher's ornate Rococo style Huet was accomplished at painting a wide variety of subjects, most notably animals. In addition he was a skilled engraver, often engraving his own original works. This French tapestry wall-hanging is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
