A reproduction of an original oil painting by Jean Louis André Théodore Géricault (1791 - 1824). A magnificent piece Cavalier De La Garde Imperiale (Officer of the Imperial Guard) is a romantic study in realism, depicting an officer of the Hussars on his rearing mount as he charges into battle. This blend of realism and romanticism is evident in much of Géricault's work, and each painting contains a considerable amount of detail. Largely self-taught he brought a level of reality to art rarely seen in his day. Because of the energy and verve of his work he would be an inspiration and guiding light to the generation of artists who would follow on from his early death, planting the seed for the movement now called "Realism". This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging .
