Raphael's cherubs (no border)

This tapestry is a reproduction of a detail from the Sistine Madonna, a painting by Renaissance artist Raphael (1483 - 1520). The scene shows two cherubs, one staring up (at the Madonna), and the other lost in thought. It reflects the Renaissance style of depicting cherubs as youthful, often as children or infants, whilst displaying a sense of inner maturity. The original painting has the cherubs at the bottom of the piece, with the Madonna and child above flanked by St. Sixtus and St Barbara. Raphael, despite his early death, was one of the central figures of the High Renaissance, and produced a number of works of genius with apparent ease. Along with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci he would define the entire Renaissance period and set a standard of draughtmanship, invention and technique that has yet to be equalled in any artform. This tapestry is lined and has a tunnel for ease of hanging.
