Hanging your tapestry

Most of our tapestries come with a sleeve or tunnel intended for a rod as this is the most common way to hang a tapestry.

There are two main options:

  1. The most economical way is to use a wooden rod. This can simply be a length of wood doweling cut to size at a local store or building supplier. Once cut it can be finished or stained to suit your decor. When ready you will require a means to attach it to the wall, the easiest way being to use cup-hooks placed over small picture hook nails found in many hardware stores. A more inventive approach is to have an ironworks store design custom hooks and fittings to suit your own tastes. With this option do remember to measure the diameter of the rod.
  2. A neater option is to buy an iron or metal based tapestry rod, specifically designed to hang and display tapestry wall hangings. We have a number of rods to choose from with different finials (decorative end pieces), and these have the added benefit of allowing for variable width tapestries. All of our rods come with all the fixtures needed to finish the job.

See our selection of Tapestry Rods.

Useful tip: It is often best to have your tapestry a small distance from the wall. This helps prevent mildew from building up on your wall hanging, especially during the summer months. All of our rods keep the tapestry a few inches proud of the wall and it is something to bear in mind should you decide to hang your own.
